Sky Sports pundit shares West Brom promotion charge prediction, ‘win back-to-back games’

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

West Brom may sit 22nd in the Championship but Kevin Campbell is extremely optimistic about the club’s chances under Carlos Corberan this season.

After starting his tenure with a 2-0 loss to Sheffield United, Corberan won back-to-back games against Blackpool and QPR with two clean sheets and the Baggies have lifted themselves off the bottom of the table.

The gap between West Brom and the playoff places is now just 11 points, and Campbell made a very hopeful prediction on the Baggies climbing the table this season.

West Brom

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Campbell said: “The key is to stop conceding. A team like West Brom, when you’re not conceding goals you then have a chance to go and win the game.

They’ve been guilty of letting teams get their nose in front and make life more difficult for them, but now it’s 0-0 and they’re grabbing a goal and winning games.

Two back-to-back wins against promotions rivals should give everyone massive confidence at the club. Huge confidence. You win back-to-back games and suddenly you’re thinking you can keep it going.

The manager will be happy as he gets a month to work with the players.

Labelling QPR “promotion rivals” suggests Campbell hasn’t ruled out a mighty comeback from West Brom this season. It’d take a mountainous effort from the squad to recover from such a poor start to the season, but anything is possible in the Championship.

Beating QPR was a huge statement of intent under Corberan and it showed the rest of the division that they’re capable of beating anyone on their day – even away from home.

It’s certainly an optimistic take from Campbell, but the Baggies do look far more resilient and driven since Corberan’s arrival. If they hit the ground running after the World Cup break then a play-off charge could be on the cards.
