West Brom Twitter post on Leeds United shows embarrassing collapse

With West Brom currently rooted in the Championship relegation zone, new manager Carlos Corberan has an uphill challenge to push the Midlands club back towards the Premier League.

The Baggies, who currently sit 22nd in the Championship with just four wins from 19 fixtures, collapsed to a new embarrassing low under the tenure of ex-boss Steve Bruce, with the club now facing a serious fight to avoid relegation.

And the mood of fans won’t have been improved after an untimely tweet by the club’s official Twitter account, which included a video of a 4-1 thrashing over Leeds United in 2018.

The tweet, labelled “On This Day in 2018”, shows clips of goals from Hal Robson-Kanu, Matt Phillips, Harvey Barnes, and Dwight Gayle in a dominant victory for then-manager Darren Moore over The Whites.

With both sides batting side-by-side in the Championship in 2018, the tweet has highlighted the two different paths the clubs have taken since this match, with Leeds enjoying life in the Premier League and on the verge of a potentially substantial takeover.

West Brom

Demise is clear

Posting such a tweet is a clear reminder of how drastic and swift the fall of West Brom has been since this 4-1 demolition of Leeds.

Players such as Barnes have now moved on to bigger and better things, while West Brom still languishes in the doldrums of the Championship. A lack of clear vision in terms of transfer strategy and managerial appointments is a stark contrast to that of Leeds.

The fact that The Baggies have now been through five managers since Moore – who masterminded the victory – compared to Leeds who have had to pass on the reins just once, shows how much the club’s fortunes have differed.

With Leeds sitting comfortably in the Premier League and on the verge of a new takeover, which could further strengthen their top-flight status, Baggies fans will be hoping that the club can do less talking off the pitch and start delivering some better results on it.

After the victory in 2018, Darren Moore said “this league will ebb and flow”, and West Brom fans will now surely realise the true unrelenting nature of the Championship.
