Kenneth Zohore still well out of favour at West Brom under Carlos Corberan

West Brom forward Kenneth Zohore is still set to be frozen out of the West Midlands side under new manager Carlos Corberan, according to the Express & Star.

Zohore signed for the Baggies in 2019 in a deal worth £8million from Cardiff City, but since then his career has stalled quite drastically as he fell out of favour under Steve Bruce and others.

The ex-Baggies boss gave a candid assessment of the striker earlier this season and stated he thought it was time to move on and find a new club.

Zohore is now in the final year of his contract with West Brom and ahead of the club’s crucial clash with Stoke City, the Express and Star said the 28-year-old had fallen down the pecking order under the Corberan regime.

West Brom

The report stated: “Thomas-Asante burst onto the scene on his Baggies debut at the beginning of September, where he netted a dramatic late equaliser from the bench against Burnley at The Hawthorns.

“The striker’s hard running and energetic demeanour made him an immediate hit with the Albion fans. He has vied with Karlan Grant to lead the frontline, with Daryl Dike out injured and Kenneth Zohore well out of favour.”

Surplus

After months of being frozen out of West Brom’s starting XI, Zohore should finally make his move away from the club in the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old’s last chance to impress at the club was when new manager Corberan arrived at the club, but since he has seemingly not done so, his days must now be numbered in the West Midlands.

With the timely return to fitness of Daryl Dike, who will likely be fully fit and raring to go after the World Cup winter break, and with Brandon Thomas-Asante and Karlan Grant the first choice options so far this season, Zohore is now surplus to requirements.

Although selling Zohore would mean accepting defeat on the £8million transfer fee the club spent on the striker in the 2019 transfer window, getting him out of the door could allow Corberan to reinvest in areas of the squad he deems weakest.
