West Brom set to play one game during Spain trip in World Cup

West Brom are expected to play at least one friendly during their warm-weather training camp in Spain during the World Cup break, according to The Athletic.

Following the appointment of Carlos Corberan, The Baggies have now won three league games on the bounce and climbed out of the Championship relegation zone with a crucial 2-0 win over Stoke City.

No West Brom players will be boarding the plane to Qatar this week which in turn will allow Corberan to get to grips with his full squad during the six-week break.

The Athletic’s Elias Burke reported Corberan’s schedule for his team during the winter break.

He stated: “With the intense Championship schedule this year, he has given his players a week-long holiday where they can reflect on a three-match winning streak before returning to Great Barr training ground.

“From there, the club have planned a short-warm-weather training camp in Spain where they are expected to play at least one friendly, though the opponent is yet to be determined.”

Time to build

Corberan will be thrilled to have a full complement of players at his training camp which will in turn enable him to drill his players and get them playing to his needs.

With only Jayson Molumby and Dara O’Shea representing the Republic of Ireland for friendlies against Norway and Malta, the rest of The Baggies squad will be well-rested before they set out to Spain.

Fans will hope that the combination of time away from football and a warm-weather training camp will bring more joy for Corberan’s men in the league, as they look to propel themselves up the table upon resumption.

The West Midlands club still only sit nine points off the play-off spots in a ridiculously tight Championship table, so nothing is out of the question if they can hit the ground running after their training camp.

Corberan need only look towards Steve Cooper and Nottingham Forest’s miracle promotion last season for inspiration of what is possible in such an unpredictable and unrelenting league.
