Kevin Campbell demands ‘much more’ from Brandon Thomas-Asante at West Brom despite wonder goal

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Brandon Thomas-Asante etched his name onto the West Brom scoresheet in spectacular style v Stoke City, but Kevin Campbell still wants to see more from the forward.

West Brom recorded a third successive win under new boss Carlos Corberan, with Kyle Bartley and Thomas-Asante scoring in a 2-0 win against Stoke City.

Thomas-Asante’s acrobatic effort drew a standing ovation from the Hawthorns crowd, but Campbell still isn’t getting carried away with the 23-year-old striker.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Campbell said: “He’s come from non-league. He scored a great goal against Stoke but he has to do much more scoring.

“It’s all going to boil down to the goals he scores. He seems to be a handful at times, but we need to see a bit more of that – being a handful and scoring goals.

Then we’ll see how far he can go.

Campbell may seem like a harsh critic, but West Brom do need to ensure Thomas-Asante’s feet stay on the ground.

Corberan seems to be a huge fan of the youngster, and ITV Pundit Sam Parkin explained after the match that the Spaniard was showing Thomas-Asante clips of his Salford days before the match.

Daryl Dike’s return to fitness after the World Cup break will likely see Thomas-Asante take a back seat and play second fiddle, but it also allows Corberan to experiment with two strikers if he wanted.

Hopefully with the confidence from his wonder goal, Thomas-Asante can keep on improving and live up to Campbell’s demands of more goals.
