Carlos Corberan privately thrilled with West Brom squad since arrival, Kyle Bartley stance emerges

Carlos Corberan has enjoyed a winning start to life at West Brom and the Spaniard already has some strong thoughts on the squad, according to The Athletic.

Despite a losing start to his reign at The Hawthorns, Corberan responded with three successive wins before the World Cup break, with the latest coming in a 2-0 win over Stoke City.

After taking over a West Brom side slumped at the bottom of the table, Corberan’s Baggies headed into the break as one of the most in-form sides in the Championship.

Many players have already shown improvements under the Spaniard, and The Athletic has revealed that Corberan has been mightily impressed with the squad during his first few weeks in charge.

“The coaching staff have praised the squad – and specifically mentioned Bartley and Phillips – for their response to the new training methods they have introduced,” wrote The Athletic’s Elias Burke.

“Corberan has advocated the importance of leading by example at Albion’s Great Barr training ground, and Bartley, a player sidelined by Bruce, has excelled.

“The coach has also publicly and privately praised the whole group’s response to his thoughts and ideas. Without full buy-in from senior players and the collective, Corberan insists, this sort of upturn in form is impossible.”

Unity

After such a dismal start to the season under Steve Bruce, it was glaringly obvious to everyone attached to West Brom that change was needed.

The board identified Corberan as an ideal replacement, and the Spaniard has brought unity to the club. Fans, players and the board all have an innovative manager to rally behind.

Players are clearly buying into his style of play and fans are being treated to much better performances and even better results.

Corberan is still definitely in the honeymoon phase of his tenure at West Brom, so it’s now down to the board to extend the excitement and momentum by backing him in January with his ideal signings.

He’s already shown an ability to improve and coach players – Bartley’s performance in recent weeks are a fine example of how he has shown faith in the current squad.

But there are areas that desperately need addressing in January and the summer – the board have to be proactive.
