Time for West Brom to learn the dark arts after disciplinary stats revealed

It’s been a season to largely forget for West Brom fans with the Baggies’ dismal start to the campaign keeping them in the bottom half of the Championship.

Carlos Corberan’s appointment has certainly steadied the ship at The Hawthorns, with Albion now just out of the relegation zone. Survival has to be the first priority for the Spaniard, and after his start at the club, there’s a strong chance he will guide the Baggies to safety.

However, if Albion wish to propel themselves further up the table, they must improve when it comes to the “dark arts” involved in being a successful side.

West Brom

At the moment, West Brom are officially the most “well-behaved” team in the second tier (Whoscored) and sit bottom of the disciplinary table. Essentially, the Baggies are far too nice. In recent weeks they have shown they can play some decent football, but managing games and looking to take the odd booking on purpose is something which could give Corberan’s side the edge.

Corberan’s style of management could well see the Baggies climb the disciplinary table, with the former Huddersfield a manager who will look to be solid and build off clean sheets. With Albion potentially defending a little bit more, a higher number of fouls could be drawn and in more cards.

All successful teams have a nastier side to them and if the Baggies can utilise the odd tactical foul here and there it could well prove to be the fine margins which drag them up the Championship table.
