Finance Expert: EFL left chasing tails after new West Brom protests in November
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Brom columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns...
Dan Plumley has insisted that the EFL have been left chasing their tails after West Brom protests started against Guochuan Lai again before the World Cup break.
The Finance Expert admitted that the EFL are aware of these situations, as Action for Albion urged action before, during and after the 2-0 win against Stoke.
Plumley shared that after many years in charge, it is on West Brom to change things, rather than the EFL, despite it being claimed elsewhere that without intervention, things could get worst.

“I think the challenge for the EFL, in more broader terms, is the way in which the governance code is written at the minute,” he exclusively told West Brom News.
“They’re very aware of these situations and are always trying to support the clubs, but this at the minute with West Brom comes down to individual owner decisions that have been taken and whatever motive they have got behind the scenes.
“At that point in time, the EFL can’t account for that because those owners are in so it then goes back to the wider debate on the fit and proper persons test, in terms of ownership and independent regulation, maybe changing that down the line, because the way you stop this happening is you stop people like that owning the club in the first instance.

“You’re often chasing your own tail with this which is not ideal but it, again, does back to the regulations and the EFL have a pivotal role to play in that in the future to stop this from happening at that point.
“The minute we are now five or 10 years down the track it becomes really tricky as it is on the club, not the EFL.”
If nothing can be done, this could get really dangerous for the club.
