Sky Sports pundit: Carlos Corberan impact ‘not surprising’, West Brom should be ‘challenging’
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Carlos Corberan enters the World Cup break with three consecutive wins and clean sheets under his belt at West Brom.
Corberan’s tenure at West Brom may have started with defeat, but the Spaniard responded with a mightily impressive win streak that lifted the Baggies up to 21st in the Championship.
After months of disappointment and frustration, West Brom finished the first half of the season as one of the most in-form teams in the division and would’ve preferred if the league fixtures continued coming.

But while Corberan’s impact has been impressive, Sky Sports pundit Kevin Campbell says consistent wins should be “expected” at The Hawthorns considering the squad available.
Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Campbell said: “[Corberan] lost his first game, but just getting his point across to players and changing the players’ mindset made a huge difference.
“Making the players believe in themselves again – I think that’s really important.
“If you look at West Brom’s squad they should be up there challenging, for sure.
“The way they started was poor but they’re coming into form and when experienced, quality players come into form they’re difficult to stop.
“So the clean sheets and wins are not surprising me at all. It’s expected.”

Campbell is right to set high standards, after all the squad constructed at the club was designed to take the Baggies back to the Premier League.
But that shouldn’t stop Corberan from receiving plenty of praise. He took a side extremely low on confidence and got them performing well in just a handful of training sessions.
To beat QPR away from home was a huge credit to the belief he instilled in the squad, and fans are finally starting to see the true potential of some Baggies players.
