Ron Gourlay finally gets West Brom transfer call right with Callum Robinson
Ex-West Brom forward Callum Robinson has been lambasted following a poor display for the Republic of Ireland against Norway.
It was a night to forget for the 27-year-old who started instead of Troy Parrott in attack but struggled to make an impact throughout.
The striker left The Baggies for Cardiff City in a deal worth £1.5million earlier this summer, and on the evidence of last night’s performance, it was business well done.

Robinson scored eight goals in 44 games for the West Midlands outfit last season, but when The Baggies brought in Brandon Thomas-Asante from Salford City in the summer, Robinson’s time at the club was brought to a close.
With Thomas-Asante recently breaking into Carlos Corberan’s starting line-up and subsequently netting a spectacular goal against Stoke City, it seems like Ron Gourlay has finally got a transfer call right after several indications of constant failure.
The transfer has proved a good move for all parties involved, as Robinson was out of favour at West Brom and Cardiff were in desperate need of a proven Championship goalscorer.
Irish newspaper Independent labelled the forward’s first-half display as “dreadful”, as they rated him a disappointing five out of ten.

The report said: “Wild early shot set tone for dreadful first-half display, but he did seem more clued in after the restart – although Troy Parrott should not be worried about losing his place.”
His cameo for Ireland clearly highlighted that Robinson didn’t possess the quality needed to lead the line for a side who were targeting promotion to the Premier League in the coming seasons.
Corberan can’t have any driftwood lying around in his squad as he looks to shape The Baggies into promotion contenders, and Robinson has proven himself to be just that.
With Thomas-Asante and Daryl Dike set to lead the line for West Brom in the new year, Gourlay will now look back fondly on the sale of the Republic of Ireland attacker.
