Sky Sports pundit reacts to Steve Bruce dig from Darnell Furlong at West Brom

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Darnell Furlong fired a dig at Steve Bruce’s coaching at West Brom last week, and Kevin Campbell has given his thoughts on the comments.

Following West Brom’s latest win against Stoke, Furlong came out and suggested that players “are being coached now” under Carlos Corberan.

It was a clear dig at Bruce and his coaching methods at The Hawthorns before he was sacked. But while it showed his frustration towards the former Baggies boss, Campbell believes it just emphasises how good Corberan’s work is on the training ground.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Campbell said: “What it says to me is that the players are learning on the training pitch.

When they’re learning on the training pitch and starting to get results the confidence comes back. It seems like the confidence had gone out of the squad.

Players know what’s going on and if under one manager it wasn’t working then… great. Players are calling it out. Players weren’t being coached to the level Carlos Corberan is coaching them, and that’s okay.

Steve Bruce’s methods might not have worked for them and that’s the way it goes.

Bruce’s tactics and coaching clearly weren’t working and players were growing frustrated. Whether Furlong was right or not to make a public dig at Bruce is up for debate, but it does show just how toxic things got behind the scenes.

The players have reacted to Corberan’s coaching style and results have drastically improved. Now it’s time for the players and board to rally around the Spaniard and keep up momentum for the second half of the season.
