John Swift reveals ‘intense’ training conditions under new manager Carlos Corberan
West Brom midfielder John Swift has opened up on the ‘intense’ training regime Carlos Corberan has installed during the World Cup break, in an interview with the official club website.
Corberan’s side went into the six-week break on the back of three consecutive league wins against Blackpool, QPR, and Stoke City – all of which were matched with clean sheets.
The players returned to the West Brom training ground earlier this week and are hard at work for their return to Championship action on December 12 against Sunderland.

“He’s intense. You have to train like you’re playing a game,” Swift told West Brom’s website.
“There’s no point going out there if you’re only going to give 70 or 80 percent. You have to train at 100 percent every single session and that’s what he’s got across.
“You have to be really concentrated in every drill that we do because they’ll benefit you when it comes to a game.
“I think it’s just really intense, the sessions are really well thought out and everyone’s still learning, hopefully, we can keep getting better.
“It’s not like we’re doing loads of running and coming in from training absolutely blowing, but we’re coming in and, whilst our brains aren’t scrambled, they’re working.”

Fresh start
It comes as no surprise that Corberan is putting his players through their paces during the World Cup winter break.
For the Spanish manager, the extended break is the perfect opportunity to get to grips with his new squad and instil his tactics and philosophy on the team.
Swift’s comments suggest there is a buoyant atmosphere in the West Midlands, with every player giving it their all as they strive to be at the front of the new manager’s plans.
If The Baggies can hit the ground running against Sunderland and carry some form through the festive period, they could catapult themselves up an extremely tight Championship table.
Although West Brom are currently in 21st in the league, they are only six points off the top half of the table and just eight points off the playoff spots.
Corberan’s side should take Nottingham Forest’s ascension to the Premier League as inspiration for a potential surge up the table.
