USA badly miss West Brom striker Daryl Dike as they struggle for goals v England

The USA national men’s team badly miss West Brom striker Daryl Dike as their lack of clinical nature in the final third was on full display against England.

There are no Baggies at the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 2002 in Japan and South Korea, unfortunately, Dike fell victim to this.

His hopes were dashed due to multiple injury issues, having endured an absolute nightmare since joining West Brom for £7m in January.

However, it looks like Dike is being sorely missed in the USA national team, which seems to have everything other than a clinical poacher to spearhead their attack.

The box striker would have been the perfect weapon for Gregg Berhalter to utilise against England on 25 November 2022 and in the tournament in general.

Dike has obviously been keeping a close eye on his country’s World Cup affairs claiming the beautiful game should now be known as “soccer” after the England game on Twitter.

Sorely missed

After making a long-awaited return from injury against Stoke City on 12 November 2022, it was thought that Dike may be in with a shout of making the USA’s World Cup squad.

Nevertheless, Berhalter chose against taking him and is now paying the price for not having a proven poacher within his squad’s ranks.

Yes, it’s fair to say that Dike may have been lacking match fitness, but he offers something to the American attack that the likes of Josh Sargent can’t, a knack for scoring goals.

There’s a reason why West Brom signed Dike for £7m in January and it’s this very reason why the USA should have taken him on the plane to Qatar.

In 73 career appearances, Dike has managed to find the back of the net on 34 occasions, solid numbers that can win you tight FIFA World Cup games.

The 22-year-old’s direct pace and powerful play would have been the perfect remedy to tear apart England’s makeshift backline.

It’s a real shame that we haven’t been able to see Dike on the grandest stage of them all, fortunately however he has got age on his side and there will be more World Cups for him to play in.
