West Brom teen Mo Faal scores twice on Fylde debut to become instant loan hero

While the West Brom senior team were losing 1-0 to Elche in Spain, one Baggies teenager was becoming an instant hero out on loan.

Mo Faal only signed for National League North outfit AFC Fylde on Friday (2 December) but in just 24 hours he has already etched his name into the history of the Coasters.

The 19-year-old from The Gambia was put straight into the starting lineup as Fylde took on Gloucester City at the Tiger Turf Stadium and he netted not just one but two goals to win the game for Adam Murray’s side.

His first goal came from being in the right place at the right time to turn home a rebound from a Nick Haughton strike before he completed the turnaround with a back-post header seven minutes from time.

The victory saw Fylde rise to fifth in the standings of the sixth tier but the Coasters have three games in hand on many teams above them due to their FA Cup involvement.

Carlos Corberan might not have been paying close attention to what the teenager was up to in Gloucester but he will certainly have been told of Faal’s heroics during his time in Spain.

West Brom started to pick up form before the World Cup break so the new boss might not be overly eager to get the 19-year-old into the first-team picture but more match-winning performances like that will make it hard to leave him in the shadows.

He’s also been a star of Richard Beale’s Under-21s this season and last which has already seen Taylor Gardner-Hickman break through to a senior squad place.

Fylde won’t be complaining if he keeps up this kind of performance level and Corberan won’t mind either.

In other West Brom news, with the January transfer window fast approaching, Corberan could raid one of his former clubs if given the money to do so.
