West Brom handed new boost in transfer pursuit of midfielder Jon Russell
West Brom transfer target Jon Russell will be allowed to leave Huddersfield Town in January, as manager Mark Fotherington opened up on his position at the club.
Alan Nixon recently reported that the Baggies wanted the 22-year-old midfielder, who has experienced a tough start to the 2022/23 season.
Russell is out of contract next summer, and following claims he was frozen out of the squad, the door has been opened for a January exit.

As reported by Yorkshire Live, Fotherington admitted a number of younger prospects were now above him in the pecking order and admitted that he would be allowed to leave if an appropriate offer came in January.
He said: “Jon’s a good lad, he’s just found it hard under me. I gave him his start at Reading and it didn’t quite work out and I just feel with Etienne, Diarra and these players, I can’t hold them back any longer, and they’ve forced their way into this team.
“I wish Jon all the best in his career and I hope that he finds a really good solution for himself in January.”

Green light
Although Russell has struggled to impress for The Terriers this season, he would be an ideal signing for West Brom to make in January, and they should pounce while they can.
The midfielder had an encouraging start to life at Huddersfield under then-manager Carlos Corberan, and a reunion could be what’s needed to reignite his stuttering career.
A new home could provide the much-needed confidence boost that the youngster needs and The Hawthorns could provide a welcome new home.
Under Fotheringham, Russell has fallen behind a number of Huddersfield’s up-and-coming stars, including Brahima Diarra and Etienne Camara, and a player of his talents can no longer be sat on the sidelines.
But coming to a Baggies side that is in dire need of re-setting, Russell could prove himself the perfect successor to Jake Livermore in the middle of the park.
Corberan’s old ties with the player should leave West Brom in the driver’s seat to get this deal over the line in the January transfer window.
