West Brom want to sign Aston Villa midfield sensation Lamare Bogarde on loan

West Brom are eyeing up a loan move for Aston Villa’s “elite talent” Lamare Bogarde, according to The Athletic.

Carlos Corberan is keeping his transfer business in the West Midlands, with West Brom targeting a loan move for the 18-year-old midfielder.

Aston Villa signed the Dutch midfielder from Feyenoord before Brexit and are now considering loaning him out, with the Championship their ideal destination for the youngster.

The Athletic report that “West Bromwich Albion are one of the clubs who have shown an interest in the 18-year-old and he’s not expected to drop any lower than the Championship if he does leave.

“The versatile defensive midfielder was signed from Feyenoord before Brexit and has always been identified as an elite talent in his age group.

“He’s been around the first team for some time now and has settled in well. Villa are now deciding whether it’s the right time to sanction a loan.”

Youth and depth

Corberan inherited a very talented West Brom squad after succeeding Steve Bruce at The Hawthorns, and the Spaniard has already started to get a tune out of the Albion squad.

There’s no way the Baggies should have been near the relegation zone with such a talented squad, but still, Corberan will want to improve the dressing room and leave his own mark on the club.

The 39-year-old has clearly identified midfield as an area that needs addressing in January. Journalist Alan Nixon reported earlier this month that West Brom will try to lure Huddersfield midfielder Jon Russell to the Hawthorns to reunite with his former boss, and now it seems the Baggies have set their sights on Bogarde.

Corberan will be looking to add some depth to his midfield department. Okay Yukuslu and Jayson Molumby have been his go-to partnership in central midfield, with Tom Rogic also appearing from the bench against Sunderland earlier this week.

But with a hectic schedule ahead and plenty of points up for grabs, Corberan clearly wants more dept and Bogarde represents an exciting opportunity for the club to bring a young talent into the dressing room – even if he is arriving from Villa Park.
