Football author Martin Calladine puts EFL on blast as West Brom story emerges
Football author of “Fit and Proper People” and “The Ugly Game” Martin Calladine lashed out at the EFL on 16 December after The Telegraph released a damning report on West Brom.
The report titled “How West Brom became a club in decline”, written by journalist John Percy, highlights fans’ increasing unrest with club owner Guochuan Lai.
Calladine described West Brom as a “slow motion car crash” in response to the article on Twitter, admitting the EFL’s lack of self-regulation is to blame.
“If the leagues were serious about self-regulation and not needing an independent regulator, wouldn’t it make sense to do some actual bloody self-regulation,” said Calladine on Twitter.
“West Brom is a slow motion car crash and nothing is being done.”

Damning.
The chaos that Lai has brought with him to The Hawthorns needs to be brought to a halt immediately and everything Calladine highlights are completely correct.
Where even is he at the moment? His lack of appearances at the club during a tricky period has screamed volumes about his leadership.
And whilst Carlos Corberan has brightened things up on the pitch, it’s about time things at the top end of the club were treated with the same respect.
The fans have screamed and shouted their voices for far too long, it’s simply not fair to witness the club you love slowly diminishing due to one person’s damning actions.
Taking money out of the club to prop up his own interests should have been the final straw and unfortunately, snide acts like this will continue as long as he’s in charge of the club.
With luck, the larger voices within the football world like Calladine raising their concerns will only help this battle, the Baggies are better off without Lai and this is just a plain fact.
