West Brom striker Brandon Thomas-Asante wins November Championship goal of the month award

West Brom striker Brandon Thomas-Asante’s acrobatic bicycle kick against Stoke City has been named the Championship goal of the month for November.

The 23-year-old’s strike came in the 2-0 win over the Potters (November 12) and was his third in the league since moving from Salford City in the summer.

Following a cross from Darnell Furlong and Phil Jagielka’s failed heading clearance, the Ghanaian sprung up and produced an outrageous over-head kick which lobbed Stoke keeper Jack Bonham and sailed into the far corner of the net.

His goal was just a reward for a string of exceptional performances for the Baggies, who are now on a four-match winning run and face Rotherham on Saturday afternoon (December 17).

Posting on their official club Twitter account, West Brom tweeted: “BTA’s stunning volley against Stoke City has been named Sky Bet Championship November Goal of the Month.”

Stunning strike

Thomas-Asante’s strike was certainly one for the highlights reel.

It was the acrobatic nature of the goal that was so stunning to Baggies fans, and can almost be likened to the famous Cristiano Ronaldo bicycle kick against Juventus in the Champions League in terms of the height he managed to reach with his leap.

Despite this stunning goal, the ex-Salford ace faces increased competition from the fit and firing Daryl Dike, who scored the winning goal for Carlos Corberan’s side against Sunderland earlier this week.

It seems that the Spanish manager is set on two wingers and one centre-froward, so it looks likely that one of Dike or Thomas-Asante will have to miss out on a weekly basis.

The American’s minutes will have to be managed, though, following his return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, so it will still come as a surprise to see him play more than 60 minutes at the weekend.

In other West Brom news, Andy Carroll says he regretted joining West Brom after just two days at the club.
