Carlos Corberan reveals Ron Gourlay and Ian Pearce talks as West Brom finalise January transfer strategy

As reported by the Express & Star, Carlos Corberan has been holding talks with West Brom chief executive Ron Gourlay and head of recruitment Ian Pearce over the winter.

With West Brom sending none of their squad to Qatar for the World Cup, newly-appointed manager Corberan was able to spend plenty of time with his new squad as he assessed whether January reinforcements were needed.

The Spaniard has been in talks with both Gourlay and Pearce as they discuss how West Brom should tackle the upcoming January window.

“I have had a conversation. It’s true that in the World Cup you have the time and you’ve been with the group for some weeks. I have plenty of information about the players,” Corberan said this week, as quoted by Express & Star.

“I was having a conversation with Ron, and Ian Pearce, to let them know my thoughts on the situation, but I am very happy with the players I have here from the moment I arrived at the club, this is true.

“I understand that for someone to come here, it’ll have to be as a clear improvement for the club, because we don’t need many numbers.”

Quiet winter ahead

It seems Corberan is happy to sit tight over January and not rock the boat too much in the Albion dressing room.

The Spaniard has been getting a tune out of the current West Brom squad since he replaced Steve Bruce, with West from eyeing up a fifth consecutive win when they face Rotherham on Saturday afternoon.

For Corberan, star players returning from injury will be as good as new signings. Daryl Dike made his long-awaited return last week and marked the moment with a winning goal against Sunderland.

Grady Diangana and Karlan Grant are also back available, while Tom Rogic looked superb during his cameo against the Black Cats.

There’s a talented squad available to Corberan and he clearly thinks that there is already enough depth and quality for him to lead the Baggies into a playoff push.

January looks as though it’ll mostly be a quiet month for West Brom, but don’t rule ot a late move if one of Corberan’s main targets becomes available.
