David Prutton predicts West Brom win and clean sheet v Rotherham in Championship

David Prutton has predicted that West Brom will claim a fifth consecutive league win by beating Rotherham in the Championship on Saturday (17 December).

Carlos Corberan’s side made a winning return to league life as they came from behind to defeat Sunderland 2-1 at the Stadium of Light on Monday (12 December), and climbed up to 17th in the process.

The Spaniard has overseen a remarkable turnaround since his arrival at the west midlands club, winning all four of his league matches, and three of those coming with clean sheets.

The Baggies host a Rotherham side just one place beneath them in the league and devoid of confidence, having won just one league game in their last nine attempts.

And pundit Prutton, who was writing his weekly predictions for Sky Sports, believes that the Spaniard’s side will take advantage of their opponent’s poor form and win the clash 2-0.

Ride the wave of momentum

Momentum is a big thing in football.

Saturday’s encounter sees two sides riding entirely different types of momentum. West Brom are a side brimming with confidence and clearly on their way up the Championship table, while Rotherham are struggling to maintain the early pace they set in the league.

For this reason, Corberan will know this is a cracking opportunity to continue his 100% winning record since taking over the reins in the Hawthorns dugout and take three points on Saturday.

Daryl Dike could start for the Baggies after netting the winner against Sunderland, while Kyle Bartley and Grady Diangana both returned to training this week, so the Spanish manager will have his fair share of selection dilemmas to ponder over.

West Brom must be careful not to throw their American striker into the firing line too early, though, as they don’t want him to pick up an immediate injury after returning from a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Ether play him for the opening hour or use him as an impact substitute, as was the case against Sunderland on Monday night.
