Kean Bryan injury nightmares continue as West Brom defender ruled out for four weeks with leg injury

West Brom defender Kean Bryan is due to be sidelined for four weeks with a leg injury after returning to first-team training for the first time in over 12 months, according to Express and Star.

The Baggies defender has not played a part in proceedings at The Hawthorns since November 2021, when he sustained a severe ACL injury for the club.

Carlos Corberan admitted that the 26-year-old – who moved on a free transfer under Valerien Ismael in September 2021 – had possibly pushed his rehab too hard on his return to training, which subsequently resulted in this fresh injury blow.

The Spanish manager told Express and Star: “We were trying to manage, but when a player is coming back from a long-term injury they try to come back like this and train because they want to do this.

“So he suffered a small leg injury that has stopped him again and it’s a pity because from when I’m working with him I only have positive words of his character, mentality and especially the mentality and human value that he has.

“Yes, I think weeks, maybe four weeks or something.”

The forgotten man

Bryan has really had a torrid run of injuries over the last 12 months, and you can’t help but feel sorry for the 26-year-old as he is struck with a fresh injury setback.

As is the case with long-term injuries, recovery, and, more importantly, the pace of recovery is pivotal, and in this case, it seems the former Sheffield United man has pushed too hard.

His arrival back into the first team would have been perfect for Corberan over the festive period, with Kyle Bartley and Semi Ajayi both missing out on the team’s trip to the Stadium of Light on Monday night (12 December).

Since his move to the west midlands, Bryan has only made three appearances, including two late cameos, and he now won’t return until at least the new year.

Whether the defender can ever fully recover from his never-ending list of injuries is unknown, as serious ACL injuries can sometimes decimate a footballer’s career, depending on the severity.

In other West Brom news, Brandon Thomas-Asante’s stunning goal is voted as the November Championship goal of the month award.
