Matt Jarvis raves about what Carlos Corberan did in 3-0 West Brom win v Rotherham

By Ivan Prothero

Ex-Wolves winger Matt Jarvis was full of praise for West Brom after their impressive 3-0 winning display against Rotherham United on Saturday.

The Baggies’ win was their fifth consecutive victory in the league, making them the most in-form club in the Championship.

Carlos Corberan has now claimed 15 points out of a possible 18 during his six games in charge since taking over from Steve Bruce in late October.

Jarvis believes his substitutions were vital to the win over Rotherham this weekend.

“They were crying out for a centre forward, a main centre forward,” said Jarvis via ITV English Football League highlights (17 December, 28:14).

“[Daryl] Dike’s come in, (in his) first start he’s playing well, he’s that focal point for them. But then for substitutions, you look at that it’s so important, especially in this league.

“[Jed] Wallace had a great finish, but you know he’s got such a really good left foot.

“With substitutions, you look at [Tom] Rogic who was on the bench last week, he came on and scored, this week he started and had two assists.

“[Grady] Diangana came on and scored, [Brandon] Thomas-Asante came on and scored, I think that these are the things that define seasons when you have players that can come on and make an impact and that’s exactly what they’ve done at the moment.”

On the up

It’s odd for West Brom fans to see their team win five games in a row yet still be 16th in the table.

It highlights how badly the team was doing under Bruce’s leadership but what it highlights even more is how well Corberan has done since coming in.

Corberan has transformed players like Jake Livermore and Kyle Bartley while Wallace also looks to be enjoying a new lease of life under the Spaniard’s leadership.

Dike’s return to the side since the World Cup break ended has helped massively too.

He didn’t score against Rotherham but the centre-forward’s play was crucial to the victory and hopefully he can continue banging in the goals for the Albion in the coming weeks.

West Brom face West Midlands rivals Coventry next when they travel to the CBS Arena on Wednesday (21 December).

They can leapfrog the Sky Blues with that win and potentially move into the top half of the table, which will be well-deserved for Corberan.
