Journalist heaps praise on quality West Brom midfielder John Swift
The Athletic journalist Elias Burke waxed lyrical about West Brom midfielder John Swift after his classy performance against Rotherham on 17 December.
The Baggies managed to extend their unbeaten winning run to five games with Swift particularly impressing in the heart of Carlos Corberan’s midfield.
Burke confessed on Twitter that Swift is “coming into his own” in the Albion shirt after leaving The Hawthorns pitch to a standing ovation against Rotherham.
“Swift off to a standing ovation, replaced by Gardner-Hickman,” said Burke on Twitter.
“Swift coming into his own in an Albion shirt. Connected positively with Rogic in the first half and was calm and quality in possession. Perhaps not the best option in pivot every week, but showed he can do it.”

Key role.
Swift didn’t score nor assist in the comfortable win over Rotherham on 17 December but he made things tick for the Albion in the engine room.
And Burke isn’t wrong when he says Swift is coming into his own in the Albion shirt, the Englishman finally looks to have settled into life at The Hawthorns.
He can now play a key role for Corberan and this West Brom team moving forward and will look to improve on the seven-goal contributions he’s provided already this campaign.
There’s an arrogance about the way Swift conducts his business on the pitch, something that has riled Albion fans in the past, but it’s this very trait that makes shine bright in a winning setup.
This isn’t to suggest Swift is the finished article just yet but he’s shown recently his ability to break the lines and drop slightly deeper into a number 8 role can reap rewards for the Baggies.
If there’s a player who is feeling the benefits of Corberan’s arrival it’s evidently Swift, hopefully, this upwards trajectory in his form will only take off further as the campaign progresses.
