West Brom duo Jed Wallace and Conor Townsend named in Championship team of the week

West Brom duo Jed Wallace and Conor Townsend have been named in the Championship team of the week following their starring roles in the 3-0 victory over Rotherham.

The Baggies continued to march on under the guidance of Carlos Corberan, with the Spaniard masterminding a fifth consecutive win since his appointment as manager at the west midlands club.

Goals from Wallace, Grady Diangana and Brandon Thomas-Asante sealed the three points at the Hawthorns, and the former has subsequently been named in the Championship team of the week alongside his teammate Townsend.

A trip to Coventry City now awaits Corberan on Wednesday (21 December), knowing they could move within two points of the playoffs with a win.

West Brom

Full of life

Saturday was a welcome return to form for Townsend, who had previously struggled against Sunderland. The 29-year-old was involved in plenty of moves down the left flank, and although he was flagged for offside, he went close with a beautiful header.

Townsend more than repaid the faith shown in him by Corberan and will now look to build on this performance against Coventry in midweek.

Wallace, meanwhile, could have had a hattrick in the first 45 minutes alone if it wasn’t for the brilliance of Viktor Johansson in the Rotherham net.

His goal was a fine finish, and he was a constant menace during the early onslaught of the Millers’ goal. The quality of his delivery from the wing cannot also be underestimated, with the 28-year-old delivering some quite sumptuous crosses into the box throughout the match.

Such deliveries should leave Daryl Dike with some bread-and-butter finishes over the coming months, and this is a prospect that many Baggies fans will be excited to witness.

In other West Brom news, the writing is surely on the wall for one West Brom player after Carlos Corberan leaves him out of his match-day squad.
