West Brom predicted XI v Bristol City: Semi Ajayi to start, Carlos Corberan to make four changes

West Brom are set to take on Bristol City on Boxing Day as Carlos Corberan’s side looks to bounce back from a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Coventry City in the Championship.

Four changes are expected in the starting XI following the unimaginative performance on Wednesday evening (21 December), and a few notable players will be in the firing line for the fixture next Monday (26 December).

Another quick turnaround is needed for the match, which will be the Baggies’ third game in just ten days. As a result, Corberan will likely be tempted to shuffle his pack as he tries to navigate through the hectic festive period.

Five wins from six games under Corberan has propelled West Brom up the Championship table into 16th, and the Spaniard’s side are now just five points off the play-off places.

After Semi Ajayi returned to the matchday squad against Coventry City following a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the defender is due a start in the heart of the defence and will be joined by Dara O’Shea.

Despite struggling against Coventry, Conor Townsend keeps his spot at left-back, which means Erik Pieters misses out, although impressing since his move to centre-back in recent weeks.

Despite a recent return to form, Tom Rogic is set to be swapped out for Jayson Molumby. The Australian has been notoriously unfit this season, so the Boxing Day clash will be an opportunity to give the midfielder a rest.

Okay Yokuslu will start in the heart of the midfield alongside the Republic of Ireland international, with John Swift operating in the more advanced midfield positions.

In attack, Daryl Dike will continue his path to full fitness by being restored to the starting XI in place of Brandon Thomas-Asante.

The American was rested for the Baggies’ midweek defeat as Corberan continued to manage the striker’s minutes carefully. He will lead the line alongside the ever-improving Jed Wallace on the right wing.

Matt Phillips is set to face the axe following a disappointing display in midweek, with Grady Diangana – who scored against Rotherham on his return from injury – taking his spot in the starting XI on the left wing.

In other West Brom news, Nigel Quashie urges Corberan to manage Dike carefully this season.
