Aston Villa ace Matty Cash reacts as West Brom announce new hire of Michael Hefele

Aston Villa right-back Matt Cash has sent an Instagram message to Michael Hefele after the German was added to Carlos Corberan’s backroom staff at West Brom.

The Baggies announced on Friday 23 December that the recently retired 32-year-old has replaced Jaime Monroy as Albion’s first-team assistant coach.

Cash, who played with Hefele at Nottingham Forest has since commented on the German’s latest Instagram post wishing him the best in his latest role.

“All the best my friend,” said the Poland international (Instagram, 23 December).

New adventure

Hefele called time of his playing career relatively early and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he goes on to be a success when it comes to coaching. He’s a big character who will certainly be respected amongst the Baggies’ current group of players.

It’s good to see the club move quickly to secure an assistant for Corberan, and it’s fair to say things are going fairly well when it comes to on-the-field ongoings at the club. The Baggies look like a far better team with the Spaniard at the helm, with the players really starting to invest in how he wants to approach fixtures.

West Brom

However, rumblings in the boardroom in recent days should be a concern for The Hawthorns faithful, with talk of further loans on the horizon and the clock still ticking on Guochuan Lai’s repayment ahead of the January transfer window.

Should the payment be made, it could be a significant financial boost heading into the winter window.
