Bristol City suffer Tomas Kalas injury blow ahead of West Brom clash

Tomas Kalas is set to be missing for Bristol City ahead of their Championship clash against West Brom at Ashton Gate on Boxing Day, according to Bristol Live.

Nigel Pearson was initially eager for the defender to return around Christmas following a calf issue which he sustained following two substitute appearances against the Baggies and Millwall in October (Bristol Live, 22 December).

However, it’s believed the Bristol City manager will now resist the temptation to rush the 29-year-old defender back, with a new year return likely.

Bounce back

Carlos Corberan will be looking for a positive reaction from his side after they suffered their first defeat in six matches against Coventry on Wednesday evening (21 December). Albion struggled to hit the levels they’ve previously shown under the Spaniard, but a lot of that has to go down to the impressive Sky Blues, who made life extremely hard.

Pearson’s side currently sit below the Baggies in the table but can leapfrog them with a win on Monday (26 December). The West Country side are coming off a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Stoke City having taken the lead. It’s the first real test of Corberan having taken charge at The Hawthorns, and he will be looking for his side to continue their impressive defensive record.

West Brom

During their winning run, the Baggies only conceded one goal and it’s important for Albion’s backline to remain rigid in the clash at Ashton Gate. A win could see West Brom close the gap on the top six to just two points.
