West Brom transfer news emerges as Carlos Corberan may look to sign new defender
Carlos Corberan may look to sign a new right-back for West Brom with Darnell Furlong being his only natural option in the position at the moment, according to The Athletic.
The Spaniard is playing catch-up with West Brom after inheriting a poor and lacklustre squad from Steve Bruce, one that was languishing in the relegation zone.
The Athletic confessed that there could be “no incoming signings” at West Brom this January with there being clear parameters surrounding the type of player they could move for.

“With clear parameters regarding the type of player Albion will enter the market for, there could be no incoming signings during the upcoming window,” as quoted by The Athletic.
“Though Corberan is aware of this, he has publicly stated his desire for the club to remain active in monitoring the transfer market as a matter of due diligence.
“One position he may look to strengthen is right-back, with Darnell Furlong as the only natural option.”

Lai in the way.
West Brom owner Guochuan Lai’s repayment of a £4.95m loan is likely to be the stumbling block preventing the Baggies from making any transfers.
West Brom CEO Ron Gourlay made clear on December 1 during an Albion Assembly meeting that Lai had assured him that the loan will be repaid on December 31 2022.
Nevertheless, we’ve heard this rhetoric far too many times before and it’s hard to believe anything anyone says in the upper echelons of the club.
It has also been reported that West Brom may have taken out a £25m loan themselves to help Corberan during the next transfer window, but this hasn’t been confirmed or denied by the club.
One thing is for sure, if the Baggies are to compete with Norwich and Burnley at the top of the table, they will need some form of investment in the January transfer window.
