Brandon Thomas-Asante shares Championship goalscoring ambitions at West Brom
West Brom striker Brandon Thomas-Asante has shared his Championship goal-scoring ambitions with Express and Star after netting a brilliant goal against Bristol City on Boxing Day.
The 23-year-old came off the bench and scored the match-winning goal in the 2-0 win over the Robins (26 December), which saw Carlos Corberan’s side climb to 14th in the Championship table.
After moving from League Two side Salford City in the summer, the striker netted his fifth goal of the season with a beautiful left-footed lob from long range in the 78th minute.

As reported by Express and Star, the Baggies ace now has his eyes on rising through the Championship goalscoring charts as he strives for more first-team minutes.
He said: “I spoke to a few of the (club) media team and my parents before the game because I knew I wasn’t starting. I said to my mum before the game that hopefully I can fix the minutes-per-goal (stat) if I come on, so I’m happy.
“But I know there’s more to do, last time I checked it was (Coventry’s Viktor) Gyokeres at the top of the standings for goals so I want to keep closing that gap.”

Tough competition
Although Thomas-Asante has now netted a pair of stunning goals in recent matches, he will need to continue this rich vein of form to supplant Daryl Dike in the starting line-up.
The American is still building his way back to full fitness following a lengthy injury layoff, so a few opportunities may arise in the coming weeks for the ex-Salford City forward.
Thomas-Asante will need to keep producing the goods in front of goal to firstly be given regular minutes and secondly start closing down the gap to Gyokeres in the goalscoring charts.
His finish against Bristol City certainly proved his instinctive knack for finishing. The gorgeous left-footed lob over goalkeeper Max O’Leary left supporters in the away end watching on in amazement.
The Baggies return to action against Preston North End on Thursday (29 December), and the striker will hope his goal-scoring heroics will be rewarded with a return to the starting XI.
