West Brom news as Matt Phillips struck by illness before Preston clash
West Brom winger Matt Phillips has been struck with an illness before the team’s clash against Preston North End, according to journalist Elias Burke.
Phillips has been a mainstay in Carlos Coberan’s starting XI since the Spaniard took over the reins at The Hawthorns, starting in every single fixture.
Burke confessed that Phillips was absent from the matchday squad due to an “illness” something which likely brought about a late change to the Baggies lineup with the inclusion on Grady Diangana.
“Phillips absent from the matchday squad with illness,” announced Burke on Twitter.

Revitalised?
Phillips was putting in some absolute shockers under Steve Bruce at the start of the Baggies campaign but has seemed to become a teacher’s pet under Corberan.
Starting every game for the Spaniard suggests that he trusts Phillips fully and it will be interesting to see how West Brom fare without him against Preston.
A lot of fans have questioned this though and it seems Phillips still has a lot of people to win over at The Hawthorns this season.
But as ever, Corberan is probably right on his selections, Phillips did after all score in his last outing against Bristol City, reaffirming Corberan’s decision to start him again.
Maybe Phillips is just prospering as the team is as a whole, everyone has looked better since Corberan’s arrival and the team is brimming with confidence right now.
Another solid win against Preston will cap off an eventful 2022 for the Baggies, with luck, a promotion push can be made in 2023.
