West Brom winger Jed Wallace hailed for ‘ingenious’ moment of magic against Preston
West Brom star Jed Wallace was firing on all cylinders during Thursday (29 December) night’s clash against Preston, and Elias Burke was left stunned by his “ingenious” wing play early in the first half.
Entering the match on the back of six wins in their last seven games, Carlos Corberan’s side started the game brightly, hitting the post twice in the opening 20 minutes.
The 28-year-old attacker was at the heart of all the Baggies’ early opportunities, and he carved open a clear-cut chance following a brilliant jinxing run down his wing.

Reporting for The Athletic, Burke tweeted: “Jed, So Close.
“Ingenious wing play to dribble past his marker into the box, from there, two options: pass square to Rogic or shoot near post. He goes for the latter and his shot is deflected narrowly wide. Golden chance.”
Threat
Wallace was quite brilliant in the early stages of the Championship fixture against Preston and was involved in every bright move West Brom strung together.
Following their opening opportunity described above, the winger would continue to carve open opportunities at will and terrorise the Preston back-four.
After some lovely interplay down the left wing, in which he nutmegged his opposite number, Wallace struck the post with a low strike, before Freddie Woodman denied him with another smart stop just five minutes later.
Since Carlos Corberan’s appointment as manager, Wallace has been quite superb, producing a man-of-the-match performance in the 3-0 win against Rotherham, and becoming a mainstay in Corberan’s team over the hectic festive period.
With the Baggies likely to have the financial shackles placed on them in January as well, the emergence of Wallace as an attacking threat could save the club a lot of money in the transfer market.
In other West Brom news, Carlos Corberan favourite Matt Phillips struck by illness before Preston clash.
