Alex Palmer sends message to Aston Villa coach Mark Naylor after West Brom win v Preston

Alex Palmer has responded to Aston Villa’s academy goalkeeping coach Mark Naylor after helping West Brom to a win over Preston North End.

Palmer secured yet another clean sheet as two goals from Okay Yokuslu helped Carlos Coberan’s side move to within one point of the playoff places.

Naylor has previously worked at The Hawthorns and was in attendance for the win over Ryan Lowe’s side. The Villa academy coach tweeted after the game praising the West Brom keeper’s performance.

“Great to be back at West Brom tonight. A pleasure to watch Alex Palmer perform with so much composure,” he wrote (29 December).

Palmer replied (via Twitter, 30 December): “Wouldn’t have been possible without you Nails.”

Superb

The response to the defeat to Coventry has been nothing short of sensational from the Baggies. Two clean-sheet victories have followed, demonstrating the immense belief this group of players currently have in Corberan and the current coaching staff.

The Spaniard has made Albion an extremely tough side to break down since his arrival, with just four goals conceded during his time at The Hawthorns, with two of them coming in his first game against Sheffield United. Since then it’s been a pleasure to watch this side transform and they now stand a strong chance of breaking into the playoffs.

West Brom

There’s a large group of teams separated by just a few points, which means if the Baggies can continue their excellent winning form, there’s a good chance they could cement themselves firmly into the top six.

It’s up to Corberan and his staff to keep his players focused on the task at hand and ensure they don’t think a playoff spot is a certainty at the moment.
