West Brom fan group stage ‘white paper protest’ as journalist shares footage during 2-0 win v Preston
West Brom fan group Action for Albion staged a “white paper protest” against the club’s owner during their 2-0 win against Preston North End on Thursday (29 December) at the Hawthorns.
The Baggies confirmed on Wednesday (28 December) that they have secured a four-year loan against all of their assets and which will be used to finance the general business operations of the football club.
The move has been criticised by finance expert Kieran Maguire, and the Baggies fans have now displayed their protest during the game.
“Action for Albion’s white paper protest against the financial issues at the club takes place with a number of fans getting involved. A second half protest also planned,” wrote Express and Star journalist Jonny Drury.
Shambles
The Baggies have taken a big gamble here after they secured a £20 million loan to finance the running of the football club.
The results have improved dramatically since Carlos Corberan replaced Steve Bruce in October. The Baggies have picked up seven wins in their last eight games, and they are within touching distance of playoffs.
However, the off-the-pitch developments should concern the fans. The club has not been transparent here about the details of the deal, especially the interest rate and the loan repayment schedule.

The club owner Guochuan Lai doesn’t make an appearance at the Hawthorns, and what makes the matter worse is that he keeps of failing the repayment deadline.
It appears that Lai will sell the club at the first opportunity if the Baggies return to the Premier League, and the Baggies are putting all their hopes on Corberan.
However, if the decision backfires, that is if West Brom fail to make it to the Premier League in the next two years, the club could find themselves in deep trouble.
