West Brom: Jorge Alarcon shares Al Nassr image after mega Cristiano Ronaldo news

West Brom first-team assistant coach Jorge Alarcon has shared a tweet highlighting his first experiences as a professional coach at Al Nassr, after the Saudi Arabian club announced the huge signing of Cristiano Ronaldo on Friday (30 December).

The 37-year-old joined manager Carlos Corberan at the Hawthorns earlier this season after the sacking of Steve Bruce and has been the Spaniard’s highly-trusted assistant at several clubs in the past few years.

The coach has helped mastermind a remarkable recovery for the club, stringing together a run of seven wins in their last eight Championship matches.

Taking to Twitter (Saturday 31 December), Alarcon said: “Eight years ago, I enjoyed my first experience in professional football in Asia.

“Special day for Al Nassr Football Club.”

It is crucial for a manager and his coaching staff to have a strong relationship, and this is certainly the case with Alarcon and Corberan at West Brom.

The two Spaniards have brought a new philosophy to the club following the dire era of Bruce in the West Midlands and have taken inspiration from Marcelo Balsa’s textbook: Play high, play aggressively and play on the front foot at all times.

It will be interesting to see just how far the ex-Huddersfield manager and his assistant can take the Baggies, but following their stunning start to life, a potential promotion isn’t yet out of the question.

Much like Steve Cooper at Nottingham Forest last season and Dean Smith with Aston Villa in 2018, a new manager mid-season can have a huge impact in the Championship, and the chance of promotion can never be ruled out given the mad nature of the league.
