West Brom transfer news as hijack on cards for Jon Russell deal in January

West Brom are at risk of having their potential transfer for Huddersfield midfielder Jon Russell hijacked by Rotherham United, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Russell’s contract negotiations with Huddersfield have stalled and the maestro is looking for a way out of the club with the January transfer window now open.

Nixon confessed that Baggies boss Carlos Corberan is keen to take Russell from his old club but West Brom have yet to finalise a move.

“Rotherham United are in talks with Huddersfield to sign midfielder Jon Russell and hijack a move to West Brom,” said Nixon.

“The Millers are interested in the hard-running Russell who is available after contract talks stalled.

“Carlos Corberan is keen to take Russell from his old club to West Brom but has yet to finalise the move.”

West Brom

Solid signing.

West Brom need to buck up their ideas by the sounds of things, the maestro could prove to be a solid signing for the Baggies if they choose to pursue him.

He hasn’t been too impressive for the Terriers this campaign but fans can look towards his performances for them when Corberan was head coach to get an idea of what he could do for the club.

A new home at The Hawthorns and a fresh lease of footballing life may just be the perfect remedy for Russell to get his career back on track.

He’s simply far too talented to be sitting on the bench in the Championship every weekend and now would be the perfect time to make a move.

With Jake Livermore’s time at the Baggies seemingly coming to an end, Russell could fill the spot the veteran footballer would leave behind.

With Corberan previously managing the player, it’s likely the Albion still holds all the cards in this one and it wouldn’t be surprising if Russell opts for West Brom over Rotherham because of this.
