Southampton in talks to sign Mislav Orsic, he was once close to signing for West Brom

Southampton are in talks to sign former West Brom target Mislav Orsic with an opening bid expected imminently, according to the Daily Express’ Ryan Taylor.

It’s understood the Baggies, along with Burnley were interested in signing the 30-year-old Croatian international when they were in the Premier League (Ryan Taylor, personal Twitter account, 3 January).

It now appears he could finally secure a long-awaited move to England, with the Saints expected to bid for the winger, with there being sense the move “could get done”.

Long time ago

The links to Orsic are certainly a thing of the past for West Brom fans. He’s been destined to move to the Premier League for a number of years and it will be interesting to see how he fairs at a struggling Southampton side. As for Albion, the transfer window will give Carlos Corberan the chance to fine-tune his squad after a fine run of form.

All the players are performing at the moment and it’s difficult to pinpoint an area which could be dramatically improved at the moment. Potentially another central midfielder to provide some depth for the Spaniard could be a route for the board to go down.

West Brom

The Baggies are likely to be targeting loan deals this month instead of looking to splash the cash on some of the best players League One and Two have to offer.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Baggies utilise the Premier League loan market to add one or two promising youngsters to their ranks to really give them the best chance of making the playoffs.

In other West Brom news, a £50million takeover approach was made to Lai at the start of the season.
