West Brom fans chant at Ron Gourlay after 1-0 win v Reading, Action for Albion praise supporters

West Brom fans staged a protest outside The Hawthorns despite coming away from their game with Reading having secured all three points.

Daryl Dike finally scored his first goal on home turf for the Baggies to see the score end 1-0 but the day was only getting started for many Albion fans who headed for Halfords Lane to protest against club owner Guochuan Lai and CEO Ron Gourlay.

The crowd was loud and yet well-behaved in voicing their displeasure at the way the club is being run and Express and Star journalist Jonny Drury shared what was being sung outside the ground.

“Gourlay Gourlay show your face” chant Albion fans,” Drury said via his personal Twitter account as Action for Albion later thanked the fans who turned up for their impeccable behaviour and passion.

“Incredible support. Absolutely fantastic. Thank you to each and every one of you for helping grow this to what it is so far. We’ll continue to build. Thank you for being well-behaved and superb. No unsavoury scenes at all,” they said via their Twitter account.

Passion

Football fans don’t go after the owner of their football club without a valid reason and that is something that Guochuan Lai has to recognise when he sees the scenes from The Hawthorns.

The West Brom fans want answers as to why what has happened has ended up doing so and a clear plan from the board about how they plan to fix the situation.

If they don’t get that then they are well within their right to be calling for Lai and Gourlay to leave their club alone and sell up.

This will only be the first demonstration from the West Brom fans if things do not change for the better very soon and this is the worst possible month for it to happen because Carlos Corberan wants to make signings in this transfer window.

Whatever solution is reached, it has to be done so very quickly to allow the club to move forward as it always should have been.
