Karlan Grant now in shadows of West Brom teammates under Carlos Corberan
Carlos Corberan has led a revolution at West Brom since he replaced Steve Bruce but it has come at a cost for one Baggies player.
Karlan Grant had been almost ever-present under Bruce both this season and last and did score plenty of goals during that time even though Albion struggled to pick up results.
But as soon as Corberan made his way to The Hawthorns, Grant was almost forced into the shadows because two other strikers have come and taken the limelight.
It began with Brandon Thomas-Asante who really burst onto the scene prior to the World Cup break and carried it on afterwards thanks to a stunning acrobatic goal against Stoke City.
As well as the former Salford City number nine, Daryl Dike has now come to the party for West Brom and scored his first goal at The Hawthorns to win the game against Reading.
Both of those are now firmly at the forefront for Corberan and at least one of them seems to perform in every single game and that has left Grant without a way back into the mix.
With a goalscoring record like his in the second tier, he is surely not going to be content to be the third-choice at The Hawthorns for the rest of the season and there is no sign of either Thomas-Asante or Dike slowing down.
It would not be totally out of the question for him to ask to leave the club this month if Corberan does make that clear to him.
In truth, it would not be a huge loss for West Brom anyway because while he did score goals under Bruce, it often took him five or six attempts to do so and he wasn’t getting that many most of the time.
In other West Brom news, Corberan was joined by some friendly faces when Albion welcomed the Royals in their first game of 2023.
