Kevin Campbell makes West Brom Steve Bruce comparison after Carlos Corberan flying start at The Hawthorns

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Campbell has suggested West Brom’s players didn’t gel with Steve Bruce with the Baggies now flying under the stewardship of Carlos Corberan.

Albion have won eight of their last nine matches to propel themselves to within touching distance of the playoff places.

It’s been a remarkable turnaround for the Baggies and Campbell has claimed they were on the “brink” of a relegation battle before the Spaniard’s appointment.

“They wouldn’t be doing as well as they are, that’s for sure. I just don’t think that was a match made in heaven,” Campbell exclusively told West Brom News.

“They were on the brink of a relegation battle dog fight and it just didn’t fit, unfortunately. When a manager doesn’t gel with the players as much as they would like the performances don’t go so well.

“You look at West Brom’s squad and think they’re stacked but it just didn’t work out for Steve Bruce.”

West Brom are on a three-game winning run and will be looking to climb into the playoff places when they face Luton Town in their next Championship fixture (14 January).

Considering the tight-knit nature of the second tier this season, a consistent run of wins should see Corberan’s side cement their place inside the top six.

However, this weekend (7 January) Albion’s attention will turn to the FA Cup as they travel to National League high-flyers Chesterfield.
