Gordon Brown comments make West Brom owner debacle scream relevance
TalkSPORT broadcaster Max Rushden has pointed to recent comments made by former Prime Minister Gordon Brown that tie in with the current issues at West Brom.
Brown tweeted on 4 January that there is a need for an independent regulator to be brought into football who speaks for the supporters and protects the long-term interests of the game.
Rushden confessed on The Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast (5 January) that stories like the one involving West Brom and their current owner Guochuan Lai “scream” the need for this in the beautiful game.
“It could be any club and it’s interesting, I saw a clip from Gordon Brown about having an independent football regulator,” said Rushden after hearing about West Brom’s ongoing issues from Action 4 Albion leader Alistair Jones.
“Which stories like this scream that we need that in football.”
Getting heard.
Action 4 Albion are doing a fantastic job at getting the club heard and by speaking on platforms like The Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast Jones is displaying the dire need for action at The Hawthorns.

Despite this, the group have faced mountains of criticism as of late for their “shining a light” protest in the stadium that according to some fans won’t do anything.
Guochuan Lai’s leadership is finally being questioned by the masses though and this is largely down to the persistent nature of the West Brom fans group.
The existence of West Brom and the future of the club are at stake in this one and there simply isn’t time to stand around and let this slide much longer.
Performances may have become great on the pitch, but the season and promotion dreams that may come with it will be worthless if the team is wiped off the face of football by Lai’s murky deals.
It’s time to keep gaining traction.
