Carlos Corberan wants ambitious West Brom to strengthen in January transfer window

West Brom manager Carlos Corberan has admitted the club will try to be active in the January transfer window, despite their stunning recent form, according to the Express and Star.

The Baggies are yet to complete any business this month as they await further news on the £5 million loan repayment, which is yet to be repaid by controlling shareholder Guochuan Lai to be used on transfers.

Speaking to Express and Star about the upcoming winter window, Corberan said: “Right now I am thinking more in the options we have to cover and if we need to cover, I’m more focused on this.

“We always have conversations with the club, in this case it was only with Ian Pearce about how we evaluate the players with how we play. I like to make individual evaluation on the players and their progress in the team.

“First of all when the players are competing well it’s not easy to add players of extra value to help compete in the highest level we can.

“At the same time always as an ambitious and big club you always need to see if you can strengthen the team or not.”

Promotion push

Despite West Brom’s flying form in the Championship, a couple of fresh faces could help push a remarkable promotion charge in the latter stages of the season.

Since arriving at the Hawthorns, Corberan has undertaken a remarkable turnaround, taking the club from the edge of the relegation zone to within touching distance of the top six. Eight wins in the last ten Championship games has reignited confidence in West Brom’s star-studded squad, but the Spaniard is an injury or two away from some serious problems.

So with their league schedule only set to intensify and areas of their squad, such as right-back, still lacking the necessary depth, a dip into the transfer market could do the team wonders.

Corberan previously brought the best out of Russell at Huddersfield Town, so a reunion in the West Midlands would make sense in January. The 22-year-old has disappointed for the Terriers this season but could be the perfect successor to Jake Livermore at the Hawthorns.
