Carlos Corberan wowed by Jed Wallace, West Brom ace ‘jealous’ of teammates

Carlos Corberan has revolutionised West Brom since his arrival and Jed Wallace says he is jealous of his younger Baggies teammates.

The winger is nearing the end of his time at his absolute peak but he is still learning a lot of new things from the new manager at The Hawthorns.

His verdict on the Spaniard is a mixed one although he did manage to surprise the gaffer after a stellar performance against Rotherham United in the Championship.

West Brom

“He doesn’t smile a lot, after the Rotherham game where I played really, really well, he always comes round and shakes everyone’s hand after the game but he shook my hand and gave me a little pat on the head,” Wallace said to BBC’s 72+ podcast.

“He swiftly turned around and said ‘wow, you’ve got a pat on the head you must have played well today!’ Getting a pat on the head off the gaffer is a big, big compliment.

“It’s been such an eye-opener for me and I feel like I’m really learning a lot of things. I’m a bit jealous of the players who are 22 or 23 years old that are going to now take this into the rest of their career because he’s an amazing coach.”

Plugging away

The West Brom squad won’t be where the Spaniard ideally wants it to be right now but he is a good enough coach to be able to work on things and change them for the better.

Wallace might not be young enough to spend several years under Corberan but he still has plenty in the tank for the next two or three years before his legs perhaps start to give way in wide areas.

West Brom

His future may depend on whether the club return to the Premier League having made a career for himself as one of the Championship’s chief creative outlets for several seasons now.

The Hawthorns may have never seen football played in such a way and Corberan will only turn the screw even more as he gets more settled at the club.

It could be an ideology which not only gets West Brom back into the top flight but also keep them there for a long time and stop the rot that has overcome The Hawthorns.

In other West Brom news, this player could now be in the shadows in the Midlands, though, after the emergence of two key assets to Corberan’s style of play.
