Jed Wallace breaks potential West Brom team news v Chesterfield

Carlos Corberan could be set to ring the changes when National League side Chesterfield visit West Brom in the FA Cup third round.

The Spaniard has overseen a dramatic turnaround at The Hawthorns with Albion now on the brink of the Championship playoffs after a brilliant run of form.

But the cup offers him a chance to rotate and test out other personnel at his disposal and Jed Wallace may have hinted that will be the case against the Spireites.

West Brom

“We have a fantastic squad at the moment, only one injury I think,” Wallace said on the BBC’s 72+ podcast. “We’ve had the likes of Jake Livermore and people not even being in the squad at the moment.

“It’s a good opportunity for the manager to, I’m sure, make a few changes and as you know, the group is high on confidence and everyone wants to play when the team is winning so I’m sure there will be lads who want to come in having not played much under the new manager as they’d like to.

“It’s been hard for the likes of Karlan Grant, Adam Reach, Martin Kelly and Jake Livermore but they’ve been great in training.”

No risk

As the old saying always goes, anything can happen in the FA Cup and West Brom will not want to be the story of the third round having been beaten by a non-league side.

But even a rotated Baggies side should have enough to overcome Paul Cook’s Chesterfield given the three divisions between the two clubs in the English football pyramid.

West Brom

Wallace might get himself a well-earned rest after a hectic period of matches after the World Cup break ended as well as a few others who have been mainstays of Corberan’s side since his arrival in the Midlands.

With many more Championship matches to come and the prospect of promotion very much alive right now, it would be very wise to give those crucial players a rest and allow others to challenge them with a good performance of their own.

Their place in the fourth round should already be pencilled in if they can match the performances of previous games but Corberan won’t be counting his chickens just yet.

In other West Brom news, a £7million deal has been agreed in the Premier League but this World Cup ace could have been playing for Albion.
