Zac Ashworth shares message with West Brom supporters after Chesterfield drama
West Brom youngster Zac Ashworth has shared a message with supporters after he was awarded a rare outing in the FA Cup against Chesterfield.
The Baggies were disappointing in their 3-3 draw against the National League outfit (Saturday 7 January), with Brandon Thomas-Asante sparing the team’s blushes with an injury-time equaliser to force a replay.
Ashworth was given just his sixth senior appearance for the club in defence but defended dutifully when others around him panicked under the Chesterfield onslaught received in the first half.
Posting on Twitter (Sunday 8 January), the 20-year-old said: “It’s all part of the journey.
“Thank you Baggies for your terrific support.”
Great experience
It was certainly a baptism of fire for Ashworth on Saturday, but he stood tall and put in a respectable performance, all things considered.
Starting at left-back, the youngster came under pressure from the off as Chesterfield looked to make the most out of the crackling cup atmosphere, but he dealt well with the threats they offered him.

He was unfortunate to be substituted at the break, as Corberan would have made 11 changes if he was allowed to, but this will have come as a brilliant learning curve for the academy star.
Ashworth will hope he has done enough to warrant a starting berth in the replay at the Hawthorns, but it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see his Spanish manager go strong and confirm their spot in the fourth round.
Swansea City or Bristol City will await the Baggies if they win their replay on Tuesday 17 January.
