West Brom suffer ‘big blow’ as Brandon Thomas-Asante set for three-match ban
West Brom have suffered a “big blow” on Tuesday (10 January) as Brandon Thomas-Asante is set for a retrospective three-match ban.
The Albion top scorer netted twice in Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie against Chesterfield, but there was an alleged elbow from him that struck Chesterfield right-back Jeff King prior to his injury-time winner.
Express and Star journalist Lewis Cox reports that details have been “published accidentally” by the Birmingham County FA and both Albion and the Football Association have not yet released details of the ban.
Jonny Drury of Express and Star suggests that it’s a “big blow” for the club as he will miss Championship fixtures at Luton and Burnley and the return fixture against Chesterfield in the FA Cup.
“Evening. Bad news as appears Brandon Thomas-Asante set for three-match ban (Luton, C’field, Burnley) after incident late on in FA Cup tie just before equaliser. Details published accidentally by B’ham County FA, club/FA yet to confirm full details,” wrote Cox on Twitter.
“Big blow,” reacts Drury to the above post.
Indeed
West Brom scored a dramatic late equalizer as they drew 3-3 against the Spireites in the FA Cup clash where he Thomas-Asante scored the final goal.
However, the incident prior to it was missed by referee Rebecca Welch and her officials.
The footage of the incident was discussed by pundits after the game, and many felt that Thomas-Asante got away with that one.
The news will come as a blow for Carlos Corberan as the striker will now miss important away league games against Luton and Burnley.

The Baggies are on a roll here and Corberan will make sure the team doesn’t lose their fighting spirit as they have managed eight wins from their last nine league games.
Only a couple of months ago, the team was starting down at the relegation battle, but they are now dreaming of play-offs.
In fact, the Baggies are only four points behind third-placed Blackburn in the league. The club should take one game at a time, and let’s hope the winning run continues.
In other West Brom news, Albion are in talks to terminate this big-money player’s contract early.
