Rob Gurney wowed by ‘fantastic’ John Swift in footage of West Brom win v Chesterfield
BBC Radio WM commentator Rob Gurney was wowed by John Swift’s opening goal for West Brom in their FA Cup victory over Chesterfield.
Swift curled home a delightful opening goal in the 23rd minute to help Carlos Corberan’s side book their place in the fourth round.
Gurney was particularly impressed with the effort from the attacking midfielder as he finished past Lucas Covolan in the Chesterfield net.

“Brilliant goal. That’s a fantastic goal by Joh Swift, the sliced clearance from Jamie Grimes the Chesterfield captain, Jake Livermore with an important header and Swift swept it left-footed beyond the despairing dive of Covolan,” said Gurney (BBC West Midlands coverage, 20:49, 17 January).
Cup run
A win is a win and it keeps the momentum going for Corberan’s side. A cup run is something the Spaniard should be after. West Brom are flying in the league at the moment and should be looking to win every single game they participate in.
The win over Luton demonstrated that this side are now contenders for promotion and it is a testament to the immense work Corberan and his backroom staff have done since their arrival in the West Midlands. The Baggies are yet to make any moves in the transfer market and one or two additions would certainly not go a miss for Albion.

Potentially a midfield loanee from a Premier League side or an attacking player could be options for the board to consider. With there being plenty of off-the-field issues at present, fans are right to cling to the positive signs on the pitch after the dreadful start to their Championship campaign.
In other West Brom news, Guochuan Lai wants to sell the club with the takeover now dependant on one condition.
