Matheus Pereira return to West Brom update shared by newspaper as ‘fake news’ emerges

West Brom will not make an effort to sign former hero Matheus Pereira in the January transfer window, according to a report from Express and Star.

The Brazilian was a huge hit at Albion before he moved to Saudi Arabia outfit Al Hilal for a reported £12.8 million in August 2021, after the Baggies dropped down to the Championship.

Pereira has struggled to make an impression for the Middle East club, and there have been media reports that Al Hilal are ready to terminate Pereira’s contract. The 26-year-old has quashed those rumours by labelling them as “fake news” on Twitter.

It led many Baggies fans to speculate whether the creative attacker could join Carlos Corberan’s side, but there’s no chance of that happening.

There is no chance for the Baggies to bring him back, even if they can arrange funds for his transfer, as the player will not be permitted to return to England to work as he does not have the required Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) points to play here.

It is a point-based system and he will fail the work permit check required to play in England.

No chance

The 26-year-old attacker was a massive hit at the Hawthorns during his two years stint.

He joined initially on loan and later made the move permanent.

Perreira managed 20 goals in two seasons but his exit from the club was controversial. After West Brom got relegated, it became very clear that he would leave, and finally moved to Saudi Arabia.

Corberan has done a tremendous job so far but the club need to support him in the market. The Baggies are chasing promotion after a bleak phase under Steve Bruce, and one or two signings this month would be really useful.

Considering the club’s parlous financial situation, Albion can look to sign players on loan. But they may have to sell some players to free up space for new arrivals.

When Corberan took charge of the club, the Baggies were in struggling towards the bottom of the league. There was no hope, whatsoever.

However, the mood around the club has changed completely after the Baggies have picked nine wins in their last 10 games.

In other West Brom news, Guochuan Lai wants to sell the club with the takeover now dependant on one condition.
