West Brom need transfer ‘wiggle-room’ to bolster squad after win v Burnley – ITV pundit

ITV pundit Sam Parkin has stated that West Brom will need to find some “wriggle room” in the transfer market if they are to match the quality of Burnley, following their unfortunate 2-1 defeat to the Championship league leaders.

Vincent Kompany’s men came from behind to beat the Baggies at Turf Moor following second-half goals from Nathan Tella and Scott Twine cemented their place at the top of the table.

After going ahead after Darnell Furlong’s early first-half opener, Burnley tipped the scales after half-time in an exciting, high-intensity contest before turning it round with two goals in the final 15 minutes.

The club have been embroiled in some controversy [3 January] off the pitch in regard to Guochuan Lai’s much-maligned ownership, meaning funds may not be available to spend this month.

The result succumbed the Baggies to just their third defeat in 12 games since Corberan’s appointment, but Parkin believes the Midlands outfit must find some wriggle room in the market if they are to compete at the top.

Speaking on ITV’s English Football League Highlights [21 January, 53m:19s], he said:

“I think maybe some wriggle-room in the window, maybe they haven’t got loan players to match the ones that have come on at Burnley and had such an effect so I think that’s something they could maybe do in the January window to just improve them further”

Signings needed

Parkins is indeed accurate, the Baggies need to make some additions if they are to compete against the best in the division. The job Corberan has done so far has been absolutely tremendous.

They were down at the bottom before he was appointed, and now they are amongst the league’s promotion chasers, but if they are to take that step back into the Premier League, they will need to recruit some fresh faces.

Corberan has worked wonders with the squad at his disposal, but it is clear he needs more backing in order to shape the squad into his image.

The club have been linked with the likes of Brighton’s Deniz Undav in the past week, and that’s the type of loan deals they can find room for.

The game against Burnley required quality alternatives from the bench, which Corberan did not have. Adding further quality to their ranks this month may just prove the telling difference towards the Baggies’ lofty ambitions come May.
