Kevin Campbell drops ‘interesting’ claim on Brighton striker Deniz Undav as West Brom eye deal

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Campbell has claimed it would be an “interesting” move by West Brom to sign Brighton striker Deniz Undav in the January transfer window.

Football League World reported (18 January) that the Baggies were in the hunt for the out-of-favour 26-year-old, who has found minutes hard to come by in the 2022/23 campaign.

Campbell has since suggested Undav will be wanting to start for Albion and at present that’s an unlikely scenario.

“Whoever comes in is going to play a backup role. This lad at Brighton, he’s going to want to go somewhere where he’s starting,” Campbell exclusively told West Brom News.

“He’s not going to start at West Bromwich Albion as far as I am concerned because they’ve been doing really well.

“So it’s going to be an interesting one and I would err on the side of caution if that one happened.”

It’s been a very quiet transfer window for Albion but at the moment there seems to be no real need for further additions at The Hawthorns.

Carlos Corberan is getting a tune out of this group of players and it’s hard to pinpoint an area which needs dramatic improvement.

Potentially a Premier League loanee to add some squad depth in midfield could well be an option, but whoever they do bring in will have to be content with playing a backup role for the time being.

In other West Brom news, a journalist was blown away by this special strike from a Baggies favourite in the 4-0 rout against Chesterfield in the FA Cup.
