West Brom close to completing loan transfer for Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien

West Brom are reportedly close to completing a loan swoop for Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien after being linked with him previously.

According to the Athletic [January 28], the Baggies want him to join and help them in their push to secure a play-off spot at the end of the season and are in talks with Forest.

Carlos Corberan worked with him during their time at Huddersfield Town and will be looking to reunite with him at the Hawthorns.

Via Twitter, the Athletic’s Elias Burke wrote, “WBA in talks with Nottingham Forest to sign 24 y/o midfielder Lewis O’Brien on loan. Growing closer but not done yet. Among several midfield targets.”

Good option

O’Brien has found game time hard to come by at the City Ground, especially given the number of players they’ve signed this season.

Even in January Gustavo Scarpa and Danilo have arrived, pushing him further down in the pecking order at Forest and a loan exit makes sense for him.

If he can manage to get Baggies back up to the Premier League, a permanent move will also be on the cards as Corberan would want to sign him.

If not, he can get a chance to prove why he’s undervalued at Forest and if they still do not want him, we’re sure that West Brom may look into make his contract a permanent one in the summer.

He can play a deep-lying role but is just as capable of bombing forward and making things happen in the final third.

His movement is exceptional and once his teammates are used to the runs he makes, we could see this Baggies side play some eye-catching football.
